World Health Day, observed annually on April 7th, is a global event established in 1950 by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to raise awareness on key health issues and to mobilise action to address them. It highlights the need for universal access to healthcare, promotes health education, and advocates for policies that improve public health outcomes worldwide. By focusing attention on pressing health challenges, World Health Day plays a vital role in advancing global health agendas and striving towards the goal of health equity for all.

This year, the theme for World Health Day is "My Health, My Right," where the fundamental principle is health is a human right, not a privilege. This theme has been chosen to spotlight the diverse array of challenges individuals encounter in accessing quality healthcare services, education, information, and essential resources like safe drinking water, clean air, good nutrition, adequate housing, and decent working conditions.

The theme encapsulates the holistic nature of health, acknowledging that it is not merely the absence of disease but a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. Ensuring the right to health, extends far beyond the realm of healthcare systems and into the social, economic, environmental, and political dimensions, which all need to be addressed simultaneously.

At Kinetica we honour World Health Day in our commitment to health and well-being for our employees. We have employee wellness initiatives and our workplace policies also prioritise employee health as we provide mental health support programmes, free counselling sessions, wellness days, private healthcare flexible work arrangements and healthy work-life balance policies. We also believe in environmental sustainability, recognising the link between environmental health and human health. We have implemented sustainable practices in the workplace, such as a paper free office, minimising waste, promoting recycling, and creating a healthier indoor environment.

Whilst our policies may not have a huge impact on World Health on a global scale. All business can make changes that can have a small impact and the cumulative effect can be substantial. In the words of Mahatma Gandhi, "It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.” How is your business acknowledging World Health Day?
